Today, we’ve got a simple Instagram tweak that can make a big difference in getting your business discovered.
The Power of the Name Field
We’re talking about the name field. It is the bold text on your bio below your profile picture. This space can often be wasted by business owners, but adding some strategic keywords to that field can significantly boost your searchability on Instagram.
We like to call it the SEO Name of your Instagram bio!
Keywords and SEO on Instagram
So, what do we mean when we say keywords? Think about unique words that describe your business. If someone is searching for what you sell, what terms would they use?
Avoid using words or names that are already in your Instagram handle. This is a mistake that a lot of business owners make. This is about adding unique, ADDITIONAL keywords to maximize your SEO game. You don’t need to repeat something in your Instagram username, since that will already be used by Instagram in their search engine.
You can do a bit of research before you pick your SEO name. Just go into the Explore tab on Instagram and type in the words or phrases. Make sure that you’d want your account to be seen with the posts that come up.
Whether you’re a local business or a global brand, this simple change can really amplify your discoverability on Instagram.
Instagram BIO Rules
Now one really important thing. Unlike the other parts of your bio that can be edited whenever you’d like – The name field can only be changed twice every 14 days. So be strategic and mindful when making this change. Make sure you write it out before putting it on Instagram.
Pro Tip: Definitely check for spelling! As of the time of this recording, this field can hold 63 characters. So take your time drafting a few options until you get the right one for your business.
