When using longer Instagram descriptions, be careful that your text doesn’t look jammed. Instead, trying using spacing like @policefitnessnutrition to create a microblog-style post. Not only does this give your description a clean look, but it also makes it more readable for your followers.

Emojis are the universal language of Instagram. There are several accounts that have mastered the use of emojis in descriptions. Here are a few different techniques, and how you can apply it to your account.

Sometimes less is more, especially when your image matches perfectly with an emoji. As seen in @lucy_mail’s use of the daffodils, emojis can add a sweet, simple touch to your text.

Not only does @hail.o have an amazing photo grid, they also use checkmark emojis as a way to make their descriptions more interesting. By using the checkmark emoji regularly, this account has adopted a signature style which is easily recognized by their followers. Try using brand-relevant emojis as a fun way to break up your blocks of text.

Emojis aren’t just for descriptions, they can also help to tie in your brand messaging. @thecampingpage uses three simple tree emojis at the beginning of each of their posts. Not only does this remind followers about the account’s love for the outdoors, but it also helps to further demonstrate the account’s primary purpose, to share a love of camping.

If you have an account that shares a lot of user-generated content, you should definitely check out @doddlesbylilly. Since she uses other peoples’ images as inspiration for her doodles, @doodlesbylilly always sets off the photo credit with a flashing camera emoji. It’s a great way of playing up the content while also giving proper credit to the creator of the original creator.

It’s no secret that I draw a lot of inspiration from my love of all things nautical, but that’s not the only reason why I love @sailswag. This account does an amazing job of promoting their website by “anchoring” it with anchor emojis. Not only does it draw your eye to the website, but it does so in a way that doesn’t feel like a typical sales pitch. They even use a plane emoji to symbolize that they offer international shipping on product shots.

If you find that you are still struggling to speak the language of emoji, consider using simpler tactic, like @opi_products does with their use of vertical lines. By offsetting their hashtags with vertical lines, your eye is more quickly drawn to their hashtag strategy. Consider using this technique if you are trying to promote your own unique brand hashtag.

Instagram is a great place to get creative with capitalization like @CLEANperfume does with their creative hashtags. By capitalizing the word “clean” in each of their hashtags, users can see the hashtags’ connection to the account brand.

Remember, Instagram strategies are not a one-size-fits-all approach. Take the time to strategize your account and decide which techniques will work best within your specific marketing goals. By being authentic and using your unique voice in each of your posts, you’ll find that you too will develop your own signature Instagram style.
