How to Get More Followers by Commenting on Instagram
I get asked all the time, “Sue, why should I bother commenting on other peoples’ content?” One big reason: commenting every single day will help you get more followers on Instagram™. Keep reading this blog post to discover my best tips for getting more followers from different conversations on Instagram™.
First, the easiest way to make your comments memorable is by creating a signature way you comment. Whether it’s using certain words or a specific emoji, being consistent will help you stand out from other accounts. When you do this enough people will start to think, “Wow they’re always commenting with intention.” That means doing more than leaving a thumbs-up emoji on a bunch of posts. Think about how your signature commenting style can add to the conversation.
Engage with Complementary Accounts
Next, you can get more followers by engaging with complementary accounts. These are Instagram™ accounts that fit in your industry niche and have a similar target audience. It’s not just about getting the attention of their followers. For example, Cyrissa was one of my high-level coaching clients. She’s a photographer, marketer, and sells hair products. One way that Cyrissa stands out in each of her industry niches is by commenting with lowercase letters. Now, it is her signature style across Instagram™. Another one of my clients, Renee, uses a megaphone emoji when she comments to tie in her business name, Megaphone Functional Health.
Find 2-3 Emojis that Represent You or Your Brand
Now, let’s talk about emojis. I mentioned earlier in this blog post that you can use emojis as part of your brand strategy. Let’s dig a little deeper. To make the most impact I suggest finding 2-3 emojis that best represent your brand. For example, if you’re an artist you might use the paint palette emoji. If you’re a personal trainer, maybe you will use a muscle emoji and a gold medal.
Find a Phrase or Word that Makes You Unique
Another way to create a signature style is by using a word or phrase. I have a few things I use all the time, like “GSD” (Get Shit Done) and “wicked smaht.” I use it so often I swear people can actually hear me say it when they see my comments. When you use a signature phrase, people will come to know the real person behind your avatar. Over time these can form deeper connections that will lead to loyal customers. Long-term success on Instagram™ is about more than the instant sale.
Leave Long, Stylized Instagram™ Comments
Next, you can more followers by leaving long, stylized Instagram™ comments. I’m the first to admit that I love emojis and a short, sweet comment. But there are times when a longer comment is the better choice. This is especially true if you’re trying to spark a conversation or keep it going. It’s difficult, if not impossible, to respond to emojis. If the conversation keeps going you can even move into the Instagram Direct Messegner. You don’t have to write a novel. You just want to say enough where people see an opportunity to respond.
Join an Existing Instagram™ Comment Thread
Finally, try joining an existing Instagram™ comment thread. When you join an ongoing conversation you’re opening yourself up to interact with other accounts. Even a simple emoji is an easy way to join in. When you join an existing comment thread the main account will get a notification. Oftentimes this will lead to someone coming to your Instagram™ account to check you out. It’s a win-win.
